“I’m Palestinian. I can survive anywhere.”

Life at Home

Low jalsa seating lines the space. Traditional patterns rest against the cushions. Family photographs hold memories, dinners; ordinary afternoons carefully preserved. The space carries the warmth of a room meant for conversation, tea, and long visits.

Then there is the television. The screen shows footage from The Phoenix of Gaza XR. Scenes of children playing among the destruction, existing as all children do - finding moments of joy and connection in life.

A rhythm familiar across the Palestinian diaspora, where comfort and despair learn to occupy the same space. Daily life unfolds here, as the mind reflects elsewhere, again and again. The living room stands intact, yet the distance between it and the looming rubble feels impossibly small.

Comfort and despair. For our Palestinian neighbors, one is never far from the other.
